Old-school local sim charm — when menus feel like a basement league

I've grown suspicious of sports games that try to hypnotize me with lighting engines while hiding the underlying model. Some of my favorite sims look like tools first and games second.

What I score on now

  1. Legibility: can I explain the model to a friend without a wiki?
  2. Friction: does the UI force me to slow down — and is that slowdown meaningful?
  3. Modesty: does the game admit what it doesn't simulate?

The review template I use

  • Three hours: first impressions, setup pain, tutorial honesty
  • Ten hours: whether the loop deepens or repeats
  • Thirty hours: who this is for — not "everyone"

A review isn't a verdict; it's a map of where you'll get lost on purpose.

That mindset keeps "Game Reviews" from becoming a star-rating factory on your blog.
